Slow start for truck sales
TRT Recently Registered - March 2020

After a successful end to last year’s heavy truck sales, which saw New Zealand’s new truck market with its best-ever year, 2020 has started slowly, with sales down in January. The 384 trucks (with a GVM of 4.5 tonnes-plus) registered in the first month of the year was 7.7% down on the 416 sales in January 2019. At the same time, official NZ Transport Agency registration data shows that trailer registrations in January were up slightly on 2019 – the 116 sales five ahead of January 2019 registrations. The leaders in both the overall truck market and the trailer market continued where they left off in 2019 – with longtime No. 1s Isuzu and Patchell still outfr.. ...

It’s a new record
TRT Recently Registered - February 2020

New Zealand’s new truck sales hit record-breaking heights last year – eclipsing 2017’s previous best annual result by 105 trucks. The new milestone for the overall market (trucks with a GVM above 4.5 tonnes) was achieved despite a December sales slump. That month saw just 315 registrations. Remarkably, that was still 35 up on the same month in 2018 – thanks to that having been the worst December result in six years, putting paid to a likely record that year. So 2019’s 5314 total sales amounted to 150 more trucks than 2018’s total…and a modest 2% improvement on 2017’s 5209 former record. Within last year’s milestone market, .. ...

The new truck market continued to be in record-breaking form in October. The month itself produced the best October performance ever in terms of registrations in the overall (4.5 tonnes-plus GVM) market – the 480 sales a 9% improvement on previous best, from 2018. The trailer market was 29 units behind 2014’s alltime best October and also trailed the same month in 2018 by eight units – thus also dropping the year-to-date tally further behind the same point 12 months earlier. October’s 138 trailer registrations carried the 2019 YTD total to 1302 – 10.7% behind 2018’s record-breaking market. In October’s 4.5t-maximum GVM truck market, thin.. ...

Same again in September
TRT Recently Registered - November 2019

New Zealand’s new truck market continued to be strong in September – staying ahead of last year’s sales. The month saw 514 registrations of heavy trucks above 4.5 tonnes GVM, compared to 476 in September 2018. That carried the year-to-date total sales at the end of September to 4086, compared to last year’s 3965. The trailer market’s 129 registrations for the month was on par with last year, but the 1164 YTD total after the first nine months lagged a long way behind the 1312 regos at the same point in 2018. In the overall heavy truck market (above 4.5t GVM), Isuzu extended its lead, with 111 September registrations pushing its YTD total out to 920,.. ...

Truck sales stay strong ....trailers slide
TRT Recently Registered - October 2019

Sales in New Zealand’s new truck market remained strong in August, keeping 2019 sales at record levels. Total registrations for the first eight months of the year ran to 3572 trucks in the overall market (4.5 tonnes-maximum GVM), according to official NZ Transport Agency registration data – a new year-to-date benchmark, albeit just 2% up on last year’s 3489 regos at the same point. The month itself saw 476 trucks above 4.5t registered – down on August 2017’s record 508. The heavy trailer market, on the other hand, continued its downward trend – the 125 registrations for the month well down on August 2018’s 166. Similarly, the YTD tally .. ...
